We found this place called “Snake Alley” because a number of restaurants here sell exotic snake cuisine. It’s actually a night market and apparently a gourmet center frequently visited by local Taipei citizens. You guessed it…you pick your meal, they take it to the kitchen and prepare your dinner. And you can wash it down with a little drink of snake blood, snake wine, or snake poison. Yummy!

Nicole and I love to get off of the beaten path when we travel. Today we found ourselves in a restaurant where no one spoke any English. Given my vast understanding of Mandarin…we thought what the heck. Okay, I actually know 3 dishes we could order. I ordered, 啤酒 & 牛肉 & 面类. When our meal came it was a plate of beef and a plate of noodles…seafood noodles…all kinds of seafood…shrimp (eyes and all), octopus, squid, clams and a few other things I really have no clue what it was.

Everyone should experience going to a night market in Asia and ordering meat on a stick. They said I was eating pork…you be the judge.

We were walking around one of the night markets in Taipei and were stopped by a vendor. She had a “sample” she wanted us to try. It was a fruit similar to a grapefruit stuffed with some kind of natural Chinese medicine. Of course we tried it…but had them take a picture in case we ended up in the emergency room!
All I know is we haven’t had a sore throat all week!

Thank God we found a Starbucks in Taipei. We desparately needed it as a cure for jet lag. The crazy thing is…if you order a tall drink they serve you your coffee in a real mug.
